Welcome to the first day of school at HMS! So great to see over 125 bicycles on our bike racks this morning. With 550 students at HMS this year, that means more than 20% of our students rode their bikes to school today. (Side note: We love middle school math!)
A message for our 7th & 8th grade parents: Middle school 7th & 8th Grade Football is returning in a flurry for the 2021 season. The team is open to any 7th and 8th grader at HMS. Contact HMS (846-2499) or the Athletic Department (846-2329) with questions. The team starts practices on Monday, August 30th with a Student/Parent Information Night that same evening at 6pm at Winslow Field. All are welcome!
Yesterday, we welcomed nine new staff members to HMS at our "New-to-Yarmouth" orientation! We are thrilled that our new teachers and specialists (and principal!) will be working with our students. And many thanks to our mentors who will support our new staff members all year!
Congratulations, Maya! https://mainedoenews.net/2021/07/14/maine-students-earn-honors-at-the-national-history-day/

This is what getting 12 pledges for our PTO/HMS Move-a-thon fundraiser looks like! Will Post-Ruffing & Mr. McDowell had a blast silly-stringing each other today to celebrate Will's efforts to gather 12 pledges. Go to funrun.com to get started. Thank you to our PTO!
Good morning, HMS community.
A sign (no pun) that the work on the addition and renovation to HMS is wrapping up. Thank you to everyone who made this a reality!
In twelve days, our students and teachers who have been in portable classrooms this fall will move into classrooms in our new addition. We are looking forward to having everyone under the same roof for the first time since the 1990s!
We are so excited to move into our new addition in January! #HMSlearns
Many, many thanks to the Yarmouth community for supporting the addition at HMS. Our students and staff are looking forward to learning in these new classrooms!
Wellness Committee's triennial assessment: The Yarmouth Schools' Wellness Committee will be conducting their triennial assessment at their December and February meetings. The assessment focuses on the three following domains: 1) the extent to which schools are in compliance with the district wellness policy, 2) the extent to which the local wellness policy compares to model local school wellness policies, and 3) the progress made in attaining the goals of the local wellness policy. Stakeholders such as parents, teachers, students and other school staff that are interested in attending should contact Tom McDowell for virtual meeting information. The Yarmouth Schools wellness policy is available at: https://sites.google.com/a/yarmouthschools.org/policymanual/policy-manual/j---students/jl-wellness-policy.
