February 10, 2023

Dear HMS Parents and Guardians,

We hope this message finds you well.  February has seemed to fly by so quickly!  We wanted to share a quick note of gratitude to all of our students who joined us for the first HMS dance since October, 2018.  Pictured here is a group of 7th-grade students enjoying the event.  We had over 200 students participate, and the DJ commented on how kind and respectful our students were that evening!  We also recognized that the cold weather caused the pick-up procedure to take more time than anticipated; thank you for your patience as we kept students inside until their ride arrived.

HMS students have engaged in many learning activities related to Black History now that we are full steam into February.  Linked here is our February choice board shared by Brandie Burrows, HMS Librarian, and highlighted on one slide is Langston Hughes’s poem, “Dreams.”  The poem is shared here for your enjoyment, too!

“Dreams”

Hold fast to dreams

For if dreams die

Life is a broken-winged bird

That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams

For when dreams go

Life is a barren field

Frozen with snow.
