March 23, 2018

 Dear Parents and Guardians,

We wanted to share the resource Raising Digital Natives, which provides important information on social media, including useful articles and recommendations for supporting children with their use of technology. We think you will find it helpful in your ongoing conversations with your children.

We also want to check in about our cell phone policy. Cell phones have to be off and away between 8:00 AM and 2:45 PM. This means that students may not send or receive calls or texts, or use their phones for any reason during the school day. The rule supports students to stay focused on learning and promotes balance regarding the time that they spend with screens. Phones are available in every classroom and in the main office. Students can access these phones, if necessary, with teacher permission. Tom or I will reach out to let you know if your child is using her/his phone at school. We will ask that you pick up the phone from school if this happens more than once. We’ll also talk with you about a plan for cell phone use moving forward.

Congratulations to Alex Ericson and Isaac Pendleton, March's recipients of the HMS/Rotary Student Recognition award! The Unified Arts Team chose Isaac for this recognition and the 7th Grade Team chose Alex. This recognition is based on growth mindset and the effort/grit/perseverance demonstrated by HMS students. Isaac was honored at the morning Rotary meeting on Monday, March 19th. Alex will be honored at the morning Rotary meeting on March 26, at 7:15 AM, at the Town Hall Community Room.

Please check out the lost and found tables next time you are at school. Our tables are overflowing with winter wardrobe items! We will donate these items to a local organization during the April break.
