Dear Parents and Guardians,

We’re pleased to share the following celebrations of learning with you!

Eli Olson, 8th grade student, had his poem, Mind, published in Kidspiritonline Magazine, a nonprofit, online youth magazine. Congratulations, Eli!  Please take a few minutes to enjoy : )

Our sixth grade students celebrated their first writing unit of the year with some show and tell!

After School Supervision

A reminder that our playground areas are not supervised during after school hours. Please make a plan with your child(ren) about where she/he will be after school to ensure that all our kids are safe. Students who stay in the building after school have to be in a setting supervised by a staff member. Students who remain at school to wait for an activity/club to begin can spend this time working in a classroom with a teacher, in our library or computer lab, or the main office. Students who are not in supervised settings may lose the privilege of staying after school due to safety concerns.

Important Information from Casco Bay CAN

October is National Substance Use Prevention Month and we wanted to remind everyone that Casco Bay region schools are united in working together with parents and caregivers to prevent and reduce youth substance use in our schools and communities. One tool you can use is the Talk Early, Talk Often, and Keep Talking guide. Created by Casco Bay CAN (Create Awareness Now), this campaign will help you talk to your child(ren) about avoiding substance use. The resource includes access to facilitated Table Talk sessions, in person or on the web, where local trends in substance use are discussed, and parent tips are shared. Please see the attached letter from area administrators.

Harrison Middle School Flu Clinic

A reminder that HMS will hold an influenza vaccination clinic on Monday, October 7. We will partner with Northern Light Home Health to provide our students flu vaccines. Kristina Truesdale, HMS School Nurse, emailed parents with specific information about the clinic. You can access information about the flu and the vaccine at www.maineflu.gov, www.flu.gov, or http://www.cdc.gov/flu.  If you have questions about the vaccine you can also call the Maine Center for Disease Control & Prevention (Maine CDC) at 1-800-867-4775, Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

 Updating the Powerschool Portal

Every year we ask parents to go into the Powerschool Portal to review and/or update the information that we have for all of our students along with your contact information. To update Student Information on the portal, please go to the  HMS Powerschool Help page. This will give you step-by-step instructions in a 2 minute video about how to update your child's account. Please let us know if you have any questions.

 Lost And Found

We’ve begun our annual collection of items that have been separated from their rightful owners! Please stop by our Lost and Found tables next time you’re at school and help us with this reunification process.
