3 boys in flannel

January 19, 2024

Dear HMS Parents and Guardians,

There have been many positive happenings at HMS since our last update! Pictured above and below are just two of many groups of students and staff wearing flannel in celebration of Lorrie King’s Flannel Friday 3.0.  Our school community wore flannel today to show our support of those living with juvenile diabetes, and all donations collected are given to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in order to continue the development of tools to help people manage their diabetes. Thank you for your contributions!

In this update you will find information about the following topics:

Martin Luther King, JR. Day and HMS Assembly
          Attendance Nugget
          PTO Update / Glow Run
          Dates to Date

Our next HMS Update will be sent on February 2, 2024. We encourage you to please reach out with any questions you may have. As always, thank you for your partnership.

With Gratitude,

Mandy Lewis and Tom McDowell
HMS Administrative Team

HMS Assembly and Martin Luther King, Jr.
On Friday, January 12, our full school community came together to celebrate several members of our school community.  First, our 6th grade Jazz Band opened the assembly, then our Civil Rights Team highlighted Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We launched our Glow Run fundraiser for all students by sharing grade level incentives. The assembly closed with a performance by our 7th and 8th grade Jazz Band.

During the Civil Rights Team presentation, a student read the following sentiments: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?” CRT members encouraged us all to enjoy a “day on” rather than a “day off, " and students were given opportunities to share thoughts about how they could spend time “doing for others” in a variety of ways.  The presentation was inspiring for all of us!

PTO Update - Glow Run
The HMS/YES Glow Run is underway, and students have been busy gathering pledges.  We’ve already had a teacher “pie-ed” by a student!  If you are unsure of how to sign up or share information with others, the video linked here is a helpful resource.  As a reminder, the Glow Run launch letter is linked here. Thank you for the ways you support our PTO; our students directly benefit from the funds raised!
