YARMOUTH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

We were treated to some fifth-grade musicians playing holiday music in the office this afternoon!

We are pleased to share that the Yarmouth Education Foundation has approved two fall grants for YES: STEAM Family Night for Nicole Colfer, STEAM teacher, and Stereo Microscopes and camera funding for Dr. Deborah Landry, our science consultant. Congratulations to Mrs. Colfer and Dr. Landry and thank you YEF!

The YES 4th grade Chorus and Orff Ensemble kept the concert festivities going on Thursday night!

The YES 5th grade Band, Chorus, and Orff Ensemble put on an amazing winter concert this evening! Congratulations to our singers and musicians!

U.S. News and World Report is out with its annual listing after analyzing more than 103,000 pre-K, elementary, and middle schools and nearly 25,000 U.S. public high schools across the country. Yarmouth Elementary School has received a top ranking for elementary schools in the state of Maine!

Congratulations to Liesl Sharp, YES 5th Grader, who introduced the keynote speaker at the Maine Principal's Association fall conference this morning! Great job Liesl!

The 4th grade welcomed David Lone Bear Sanipass today for Mi' kmaq Storytelling and Flute.

Innovation is in action at YES! When we needed a solution for a more quiet bell in the new playground tower, our fifth-grade STEAM students came to the rescue. Thank you to Sylvie Mocciola, Harlow Kitchens, Rasmus Kjeldgaard, and Eli King for their design and installation work!

We have amazing parents! Thank you to the PTO for the delicious treats at the Staff Appreciation Day Breakfast this morning.

Our annual "Pumpkin Literacy Characters" decorating activity resulted in some favorite book characters decorating the halls of YES today!

Students were moving, grooving, and celebrating the fall at our YES Community Meeting this morning which was led by our third-grade teachers!

The book fair is in full swing this week at the YES Library! Thank you to Mrs. Moreno for her work in bringing this opportunity to YES for our students.

Yarmouth Schools will return to normal operations, with activities resuming on Saturday morning and schools reopening on Monday morning. Superintendent Dolloff has sent a more extensive message by email to all district contacts.

Schools in Yarmouth will remain closed on Friday, October 27. Offices will also be closed, and no student activities will be held. Superintendent Dolloff will be providing a more extensive update to all staff and families later today.

Yarmouth Schools will be closed today - Thursday, October 26 - due to the shelter-in-place and ongoing search for a person of interest in last evening's tragedy in Lewiston that impacts many of our staff and families. All offices will be closed as we urge folks to remain off the roads as much as possible. Information on resources for supporting students and adults in the face of this tragedy will be shared by email later this morning.

Good evening - Please know that Yarmouth Schools are aware of the horrific situation in Lewiston and we are in communication with law enforcement. We will continue to monitor the situation and will make the best decisions we can regarding schools and the support we can provide for students and families in the coming days. We will communicate more early tomorrow morning.

Welcome to Bus Safety Week in the Yarmouth Schools, culminating with Bus Driver Appreciation Day on Friday! Students will be participating in bus safety drills throughout the week, and we encourage all automobile drivers to rededicate themselves to watching for buses, bikers, and pedestrians as our students travel to and from school each day.

YES Chorus is in full swing. Our fifth graders were singing their hearts out this morning!

YES held its first Constitutional Convention where we voted on our school rules! Chief Gallant and Dr. Dolloff joined us for this Community Meeting. We had delegates from each classroom who helped us brainstorm and create the rules that all YES students will follow: Be Safe, Responsible, and Honest Respect Everyone and Everything Take Care of Our School Community

Walk & Roll to School Day 2023: Today we had a wonderful group of YES students and parents walk to school from Royal River Park! We couldn't have picked a better day to enjoy a morning outside. Thank you to Mr. Abbott for planning this special event!
