Good afternoon. Moments ago there was a hold in place initiated at Yarmouth High School, as officers from the Yarmouth Police Department were searching for an unknown suspect in the woods near the school. The hold in place has been lifted as the situation has been resolved peacefully, and it has been determined that no students or community members were in danger at any point.
Enjoy the vacation week!
Blair Currier, our Director of Nutrition, has been working with Susan Olcott of the Maine Coast Fishermen's Association to plan a taste test for our YES students! At lunchtime in the cafeteria on Monday, Chef Christian "Nighthawk" Noe joined them to provide samples of a new fish tot recipe. Students were invited to taste the recipe and vote. If students give it a high score, then it will be a new item on the May lunch menu!

Central Maine Power has informed us that a sliced cable at their worksite is the cause of a disruption to internet and phone service at Rowe School in Yarmouth. Repairs are being made, and we are hopeful service will be restored by tomorrow. We have installed mobile hot spots in the office at Rowe School, making email with the office the best option for communicating with the school. You can email Miriam Epstein (miriam_epstein@yarmouthschools.org) if needed. Thank you for your patience!
Families of our third graders in Mrs. Wetmore and Mrs. Wentworth's classrooms went on a "tour of the world" this afternoon at a learning celebration!

The YES Unified PE team participated in our first basketball tournament yesterday! We worked as a team and had lots of fun. We want to thank all of the staff members who made this possible!

Ms. Elward continued the St. Patrick's Day tradition of teaching our third graders some Irish Dance moves!

Orff Ensemble had a "pop up perfromance" in the lobby this morning!

Over the last couple of weeks, we have loved seeing our 5th-grade Civil Rights Team members read to our 2nd and 3rd-grade students! We'd like to thank YEF for funding our grant to build a mobile library filled with books that spread our team's message: INCLUSION!

The silly string battles have taken center stage at recess this week. Mr. Gleason was clearly defeated at lunch recess today.! Our 5th graders are looking forward to the Glow Run at HMS tomorrow morning.

Thank you to our amazing staff, students, and families who came out to support our Fans in the Stands Unified Basketball Game yesterday! It was such a fun afternoon and a powerful example of the inclusive, joyful community we work so hard to build.
We are especially proud of our Civil Rights Team members, who have dedicated so much time and effort to being strong mentors and leaders throughout this event. Our February Community Meeting on Friday focused on the YES core values of caring and citizenship as students and families donated socks to the Preble Street shelter. We also had some fun with Wacky Socky Day and appreciated a special visit from Lilah Pernal, a YHS Junior, and the student who started our first sock drive! Through the years, we have donated over 7,000 socks as a school! Thank you to our second-grade teachers for organizing this initiative and leading our meeting today.
