September 12, 2022

Dear YES Families,

It has been a fantastic start to the school year. It is only day five and we have already been so impressed with how quickly students have settled into their schedules and routines. Thank you for sending them to us so ready to begin school!

We are sending this update to you with a few reminders and some new information:

YES Open House Reminders

Wednesday, September 14         Grade 2 Open House            6:00 PM

Monday,  September 19             Grade 3 & 4 Open House     6:00 PM

Thursday, September 22         Grade 5 Open House            6:00 PM

At the second grade Open House we will begin in the cafeteria at 6:00 PM for a brief meeting. We will provide an introduction and you will also have an opportunity to meet with our unified arts team before spending the rest of this event with your child’s classroom teacher.

At grade three, four, and five Open House events please proceed directly to your child’s classroom/homeroom where presentations will begin promptly at 6:00 PM and last until 6:30 PM. At these events, you will have the opportunity to visit your child’s classroom, begin to form a relationship with the classroom teachers, as well as learn about that grade level experience and how you can support your children this year.

On Monday, September 19 there will also be a “Band Information Session” for parents beginning at 6:30 PM. in the cafeteria.  We offer grade four and five band instruction for our students. Mrs. Witherall-Stebbins will be available to share information about the band this year as well as answer any questions that you may have. Interested grade four families can transition from their child’s classroom to the cafeteria that evening and grade five parents are also welcome to attend as well.

At each Open House, teachers will be sharing information on the work that their children will be doing in the classroom. For more information on instruction at YES please explore this YES Curriculum Overview document. You can also find more detailed information on math in this Math Overview along with some updated information on our Discovery Math learning opportunity.

Thursday, September 15           K-8 PTO Meeting (YES Library)  7:00 PM

Our Parent Teacher Organization does so many amazing things to support our schools during the year, including fundraising for our fieldwork outside of the building. Please consider joining the PTO as everyone is welcome! https://yarmouthpto.org/

Wednesday, September 28       School Picture Day

School picture day will be on Wednesday, September 28th this year. Later on this week we will be sending home the picture order forms with your child. Get those smiles ready for the camera!

Dismissal Notes: Pik My Kid, Parent Car Pickup Area

At the end of the day we have been able to load parent vehicles quickly and, on most days, it has been taking about ten to fifteen minutes to get all students loaded. However, we do need your help. One thing that we have observed this year is a significant number of parents not having and/or displaying their PikMyKid car tags or iPhone verifications. Three car tags were provided to you at the Meet and Greet or sent home with your child when school began. If for some reason you did not receive car tags please contact us at the main office and we will get them to you..

The car tag should be displayed on the lower right corner of your windshield facing the sidewalk so that staff who are on duty can confirm that the car/individual is authorized to pick up that child. It also allows the staff on duty to more quickly identify who is being picked up at that moment which can also keep traffic moving.

Also, please make sure that when picking up your child you look to pull up into the furthest available spot on the pick-up loop. It allows us to load more children at one time to keep the line moving.  Students should also be entering the vehicle on the sidewalk so please plan accordingly.

Thank you for your help in keeping the dismissal process as safe and efficient as possible.

Volunteer Information

Are you interested in volunteering at the school this year? Over the course of the school year, different opportunities will be communicated to you through Rebecca Spear, our Partners in Education Director, and/or our teachers. If you are interested in volunteering, the first step will be to fill out this YES Volunteer FormBecause it's been so long since we've had regular volunteers in the schools, it is important that everyone has this form updated.

September 20th: Imagine Yarmouth - Town Visioning and YES Collaboration

All are welcome to participate in creating the Yarmouth Town Vision Statement, which will become the foundation for the next Comprehensive Plan. What’s a “comprehensive plan"? It is a state-mandated process and a document that serves as a guide for the decisions Yarmouth will make over the next decade about growth, development, and change. This important community-wide discussion brings residents, business owners, employees, and other stakeholders together to shape the Town’s priorities for the future. There are many ways for all ages to get involved – including a town-wide photography competition and an open-house visioning workshop at the YHS Cafeteria on 9/20 from 6:00-8:30 PM.. Check out the schedule, competition details, and more activities at the visioning website.

That's all for now. See you at Open House!

Thanks,

Ryan Gleason, YES Principal, and Molly Kilpatrick, YES Assistant Principal
