Dear Parents and Guardians,

January and February may be the coldest months in Maine, but the winter sports season is heating up.  Don’t miss the action as our student-athletes wrap up the regular season and prepare for playoffs. Here’s a quick overview of upcoming events:

Boys’ Basketball - With two seniors and young team, this year’s team surprised many with a strong start right out of the gate. After facing a tough stretch midway through the season, the boys now look forward to some key upcoming games in their hunt for playoffs.  Please join us for senior night against Poland on February 4th, where we will also celebrate the 2019 State Championship Boys’ Soccer team at halftime.

Girls’ Basketball - The Girls Varsity basketball team is currently seeded fourth in Class B South division after facing one of the most competitive schedules ever. The team is looking to finish strong with key games vs Freeport and Wells over the next two weeks.  Wins over these teams could provide valuable heal points as well as momentum heading into the tournament. The girls continue to work hard to prove they belong with the elite of their division.

Nordic Skiing - The ski team has had a great season thus far! We are coming off of a hard competition at Black Mountain of Maine and look to bounce back as we take on Starks Hill at Fryeburg. Next Wednesday marks the beginning of the championship season for us, as we race in the first day of the WMC championship at Pineland followed by day two back up at Starks mountain the following Saturday. States are on February 17-18 in Farmington, at Titcomb Mountain. Skis are waxed, and racers are ready to compete! Work Hard. Have Fun. Ski Fast.

Girls’ Hockey -  Despite a challenging first half of the season, the girls did not quit and started a run of good hockey beating the defending state champ Cheverus just before Christmas.  After this key turning point, the team finished 7-2 in their last nine games and now look forward to kicking off their playoff run on Wednesday, Feb 5th against Winslow-Gardner at the NYA ice arena.

Boys’ Hockey - With a 7-4 record highlighted by several key wins against tough opponents, the boys’ hockey team faces St. Dom’s on Saturday at 6:10 pm at the Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn.  According to second-year captain Spencer King, this year’s younger players have turned into key contributors to this season’s success, and team looks forward to playoffs later in February.

Unified Basketball - The 2020 team is coming off of their best season, and looks forward to another round of action with Colin Cook returning as team captain.  Colin Luedke, Sam Daley, Ella Caruso, Thomas Kuhn, Ehryn Groothoff, Audrey Goessling, Parker Harnett, Ellie Fortin and Michael Sinker fill out the remainder of the 2019 team. Joining the team this year are Tyler Roderick, Will Dickinson, Fatima Aljawarin and Batul Aljawarin. It is looking to be an exciting season and we hope to see you at our next game on Tuesday 1-28 at 3:30!  GO UNIFIED!!!

Indoor Track - Most of the way through the season, things are going great so far and nearly every runner / jumper / thrower has set a personal record this season.  Especially exciting is Chris Koskinen's new school record in the Pole Vault at 13 feet 6 inches. Coming up, we have the Western Maine Conference Championships on Saturday, 2/8 at 5:00pm at the USM field house. After that, we will round out our season with the State Championships on Saturday, 2/15 at 12:00pm at Bates.

Swimming - The 7-1 ever-enthusiastic girls swim team travels to Kennebunk tonight for its final dual meet of the season. This team's success through a tough Class A schedule has been due to its incredible depth and spirit. After Kennebunk, they head to the regional meet where they will compete against 13 other teams at Cape Elizabeth on Saturday Feb 8th at 5pm. Class B states follows on Feb 17th at Bowdoin. The raucous boys team also heads to Kennebunk to finish an equally tough schedule. The team has some of the top relays and individuals in the state, recently putting on a flurry of recent exciting swims such as Conor Wolff breaking the school record in the 100 freestyle last Friday. The team also competes at Cape Elizabeth next week, on Friday the 7th at 5pm and Class B states at Bowdoin on Feb 18th.

Alpine Skiing - Small numbers haven’t slowed down the girls’ team, and they recently placed with several top ten finishes while winning the last two meets.  On the boys side, there are many individual wins with terrific contributions from 9th graders Killian Marsh and Asher Lockwood. Both teams are looking forward to the Western Maine Conference championships this Wednesday at Shawnee Peak.
