Dear Parents and Guardians,

Happy New Year! It’s wonderful to have our students back with us.

We began the new year with an exciting visit from our friends in Namioka, Japan. We hope you enjoy the following updates:

On a snowy Tuesday morning in December, the 5th and 6th grade math teams headed to Portland for the first math competition of the year. The 6th grade math team finished 6th which was just 10 points out of third place.  The 5th grade team ended the day on the podium with a 2nd place finish. In the individual portion of the competition, Coltrane Vitalius finished in 3rd place out of the 150 competitors from 25 Southern Maine schools. Congratulations to Cotrane Vitatalius, James Gerber, Reid Garofoli, Selwyn Logan, Oliver Brown, and Jesse Canfield.

We were honored to welcome our visitors from Namioka, Japan at an assembly on January 6th. We appreciate the opportunity to learn from them and with them as we share our cultures and life experiences. Our visitors commented on our warm and friendly school and were so impressed with how the students welcomed them to HMS. We want to thank the HMS Band and Mr. C. for their wonderful performance of the Japanese anthem, Kimigayo. Heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Robison and Mrs. Haugevik,

HMS Liaisons to the Casco Bay Exchange Program, for their tireless work to bring this special learning experience to our school!
