Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians:

There is a bit of excitement as we prepare for the upcoming construction projects throughout the district, and we would like to share the first of several “construction updates” with information which may be helpful.  As we prepare for the construction which is scheduled to begin Monday, December 2nd, we will need to make adjustments to parking and traffic.

PARKING - We will lose a significant amount of parking during construction, and be limited to the following:

- 84 reserved spots for seniors (this allows all seniors to park at the high school so that they are able to access senior privileges throughout the school day).

- 40 spots for juniors (these parking spots will be available on a first come, first serve basis)

- Sophomores will not be allowed to park at the high school.

Unfortunately, most of our juniors will not be able to drive and park at the high school for the rest of the school year.  With only 40 spots, and a class of 150 students, there simply aren’t enough spots for everyone to drive to school.

In addition to the regular bus service, starting on December 2 we will provide students with a shuttle ride service from the Yarmouth Exit 15 Park and Ride.  Please refer to the following information:

- Bus #10 will leave Exit 15 at 7:38 in the morning, and drop off students at YHS shortly thereafter.

- Busses #3 and 5 will leave YHS at 2:50, and drop off students at Exit 15 on their routes.

- Any student who is interested in using the shuttle service must sign up in the main office.

TRAVEL - We would also like to remind you of other significant details to the construction project which impact travel.

- The “cut through” road between West Elm and the back high school parking lot (which leads to the Portland Road entrance) will be closed to all through traffic starting November 27th.

- There are district-wide parking limitations.  Students will not be able to park at YES along Winslow Field.  Since YES is also losing some of its parking areas, all slots near Winslow Field will be reserved for YES and Central Office staff.

- The walking path which connects Cleaves Street to the back of high school will remain open (but will be bumped slightly to avoid the construction areas)

- Since Yarmouth High School’s parking lots are already too small for community events, we strongly encourage families and students to carpool whenever possible.

We appreciate your patience as we work through the hassles of restricted parking and travel in the next few months.

Best regards,

Eric Klein, Amy Bongard, & David Creech - YHS administrative team
