Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week in pictures features the spectacular HMS Literary Gala, our uniquely beautiful library fundraiser!

The gala is an example of the incredible things that can happen when a team with a single-minded focus sets out to create a truly original experience for an entire town:

Resident author/illustrator/ educator Charlotte Agell sketches Aubrey Favreau’s picture:

Eli Snow poses with one of the silent auction treasures, a book by his favorite author.

Melina Roberts, parent volunteer extraordinaire, devoted countless hours of her time to the gala.

The gala included a silent auction that featured literature, art, and unique treasures of all kinds, along with an amazing book fair, student-made crafts, and Harry Potter-themed snacks. Each component of the gala was presented in ways that demonstrate care for our earth, and with the goal of igniting imagination, whimsy, fun and wonder in everyone fortunate enough to share the experience. The event surpassed all of these goals, and was a huge financial success as well! At times it felt like our entire district was at the gala, all learning, laughing, talking, eating, and connecting - together!

It's challenging to find the right words to properly thank people for the time and energy they put into creating this special event, but we will try. HUGE gratitude to Merry Stuhr, who worked tirelessly to bring the vision of the gala to fruition (for the second year in a row)! Tracy Weinrich, Nancy Castonia, Charlotte Agell, and Molly Kilpatrick worked right alongside Merry each and every step of the way - thank you for adding your many talents to the gala!

Evenings like this do not happen without a team of dedicated volunteers who have a common passion. The folks who filled these roles to perfection included:

Peter Castonia, Henry Mellor, Melina Roberts, Charlotte Brennan, Allison Moore, Christine Thomas, Karen Barstow, Cindy Hagerty, Meg Swift, Beth Lowenstein, Leigh Palmer, Liz Reinsborough, Judy Colby-George, Tracy Nieter, Christy Hayashida, Tami Goodrich, Jessie McGrath, Carrie Maynard, Mary Post, Lisa Estabrook, Kristi Belesca, Kate Leinwand, Laurie Winslow, Pat's Pizza, ALL the parent bakers, ALL who solicited/donated

Thank you for sharing your time with us in ways that make such a positive impact on our school!

PTO Sponsored HMS Artist’s Night

The PTO is pleased to introduce Harrison Middle School’s very own craft night, which will be held on December 6, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, in the HMS Cafeteria! These crafts are a great match for middle school students’ age and skill level. We are fortunate to have the support of local artists, including Alison Bramhall, Page O’Rourke, and Barbara Parker, who will join us for the evening to help out as needed. Crafts include comics, pottery, monster/villain making, paper and canvas landscapes, felted animals, cosmic canvases, rope work, paper portraits, jewelry, and notecards. Students can create these to give as holiday gifts or keep for themselves. You can buy tickets at the door for $5/artist station. Please see the attached flyer!

Screenager’s Tech Tuesday Resource

As we continue to share resources and supports to consider regarding our students’ lives “on line”, we want to make you aware of the article, Gaming, A New Approach, which might be a useful guide for these discussions with your children.

Lost And Found

Our Lost And Found tables are overflowing! Please stop by as soon as you can to reunite your children with their misplaced items. It’s extremely helpful to have your children write their names on  their coats, boots, lunch boxes, etc! All items that do not find their way home will be donated after school on Tuesday, November 26.
