Rowe News

November 4, 2019

Dear Rowe Families,

The first six weeks of school have passed swiftly by and it has been nice seeing many of you here to volunteer and to attend parent-teacher conferences. Many teachers are still meeting with parents or will be doing so in the next week or two. It is always exciting to get an update on your child’s progress. Please contact your child’s teacher to set up a conference if you haven't already. NOTE: Please be sure to check the Lost and Found table and rack in the atrium for any missing items when you are here for conferences or to volunteer.

Chewonki Foundation visits

Rowe students were treated to two special presentations by the Chewonki Foundation this past week. For several years, they have been coming annually to present Owls of Maine to first grade students at Rowe. Our first graders once again enjoyed this on November 1 and met some amazing live owls. On October 31st, kindergarten children were also treated to a presentation about bats by Chewonki for the second year in a row. Please be sure to ask your children about these engaging programs and welcome them to share with you at least one fact they learned from them. A big thank you goes out to our amazing PTO group who funded the Owls of Maine visits.

Teacher Appreciation Meal

The staff at Rowe would like to thank all who contributed to the Teacher Appreciation luncheon in mid-October. Everything was delicious, as always. We know that life is busy and really appreciate your efforts! This is also organized by the Yarmouth PTO.

Dismissal

When picking your child up at dismissal time, please be sure to sign him or her out in the vestibule. Even if the children are lined up outside when you arrive, you must sign out before departing. This is the only way for us to make sure that all children are accounted for. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Cold weather gear

We have officially entered the period of the year when we are having some cold, raw days. If the temperature is below 50 degrees, we require children to wear a coat outside. Many children do a lot of running on the playground, so we recognize they may feel warm and allow them to unzip their coats if they are overheated. Hats, mittens, and gloves are welcome additions on cold days. Once the snow flies, we require boots and snow pants in order for them to play in the snow. If they come without them, they must stay on the plowed, paved area of the playground.

On rainy days, a number of students have been coming to school with umbrellas. Due to the young age of our children, this poses a bit of a safety concern, both on the bus and once they arrive at school. We prefer you send your child with a coat and hat or hood on inclement weather days to avoid any umbrella mishaps. Thanks in advance for the help!

Candy Drive!!

Donate your leftover Halloween candy!

The candy received will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Portland.

If you wish to donate, please bring your candy to the Rowe School Office by November 8th. Thank you!
